Dmitri Frolov / Russia / 18 minutes
Synopsis
Adam and Eve: the very first people. Then the apple... then humanity.

After « Dreams of the Past » & « Clownery », sir Frolov comes back to us with another short-film; since he’s the only director who entered each of our three editions, we wanted to integrate him as a special guest— hence this article’s preview-publishing.
We find again with « Last Love » this dear old dusty and poetic film-roll imagery. Every shot is a painting. The duo on-screen was perfectly chosen... Perfect but mute, because no dialogue: just a faraway voice-over reads a few verses, wrapped in Sergey Oskolkov’s sublime omnipresent music.
This contemplative depiction of the Garden of Eden leads to a last part that lacks a little bit of action. The ambient lyricism will allay this feeling of slightly-missing substance.
Finally, we might blame « Last Love » for only two things: either its automatic tendency to stretch time whereas a few moments could’ve been tightened up, or simply the fact that it doesn’t deal with topics as enthralling (or as numerous) as the two previously-mentioned works. Here, simplicity prevails… A new facet of Frolov’s art.

Conclusion
True to himself, Dmitri Frolov stands out with a pictorial, oneiric and timeless creation.
U.N.
