Elad Mukades / Israel / 18 minutes
Synopsis
On Friday, Ori picks up his soldier brother. He then discovers that Shalev has become religious. A flat tire is going to act as a catalyst for all the problems…
Here’s a powerful and straightforward short-film. We didn’t really hesitate on this one. Actually, the only questionable thing we found about « Let’s talk » is: a not very good-looking fade-out at the last second. Nitpicking!
It would’ve been easy to go over the top, but Elad Mukades doesn’t fall into this trap. The dialogues are admirably written, silences well-dosed. In the service of the story, the cast features a crack duo (David Ohayon and Avner Jazz, both brilliant). The humanist scenario judiciously develops several scenes and ends up with a kind of stalemate… which however doesn’t hinder emotions.
Technically, it’s coherent: simplicity everywhere. Pictures look quite raw, almost reportage so we can get involved, while offering good framings. Music is very discreet, nay inexistent on the biggest part of the film, which contributes to the realistic approach. As for the pace of Yoav Landau’s editing, it is excellent, including a couple of subtle originalities. What more could we say?
Conclusion
18 quality minutes, run by a thorough writing and two talented actors.
