Nicolas Maffre / France / 2 minutes
Synopsis
A man manages to find the place that haunts him in his nightmares.
Built on a dark up-tempo track, this Nicolas Maffre’s video catches us from the first second: intriguing story, mysterious atmosphere— the image/music harmony is impressive.
The fiendishly efficient editing serves a clear narration that flows at full speed without confusing the audience. Everything turns out to be well-balanced and doesn’t fall into some of the traps of the current music-videos’ codes (here for example: no over-aestheticising slowmotion shots, thank you). Only the ending seems a little abrupt— it must be said that the whole thing is very short.
Visually, that’s a feast. Composition, camera movments, effects: Rudy Uzan signs a classy photography with no excessive demonstration, which at the same time highlights Ludovic Lauzeral’s very good acting.
Conclusion
A striking and beautifully mastered music-video.
