Dave Lojek / Poland / 7 minutes
Synopsis
A baker hires a detective to catch the thief who steals his muffins at night.
« Pure sweetness »’s story is very short, and we won’t be able to talk a lot about it. Dave Lojek engages himself in a quick exercise between crime parody and children’s tale. Warm and desaturated photography, old-fashioned clothing, pared-down sets: a quite unreal universe is offered here. The little music, similar to a lullaby, does the job. Otherwise in terms of form or script, Lojek doesn’t seek to impress his audience and gets straight to the point.
For the cast, Gabriela Jaskuła as an ambivalent detective is hilarious, and baker Marek Józef Żerański simply adorable. You relate to the characters, not much developed but coherent with this very world.
A second viewing is recommended to detect certain subtleties— let’s not say more.
Conclusion
An express sweet romcom, childlike and eccentric; we like it!
